Anna Barthes

Based between Paris and Porto, Anna Barthes is a visual artist and filmmaker. Her studies in dramatic arts combined with her early interest in the moving image, makes her approach to film very personal: capturing sensations and transcribing emotions.

She approaches her creations like combined paintings, where everything is matter and everything makes sense.

As a music video director and video editor, her works are choreographed, graphic tableaux vivants, inspired by minimalist tendencies.

Her hybrid aesthetic follows in the footsteps of Robert Wilson, Romeo Castellucci and Krzystof Walikowski.

The immersive dimension is omnipresent, taking spectators into her world through sensory work mediated by live digital technologies and the use of performance.

The forms represented become hybrid, blending cinema, digital installation and live art.
Feelings are brought to the fore, sensuality multiplied tenfold.

Anna Barthes’ bodies are rooted in contemporary dance: the rigor of Lucinda Childs, the everyday life of Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker and the inner commitment of Pina Bausch.”
